Materials

Hilos 100% Nylon cord, # 18, in Var. Confet - color # 57 (7 oz. spool)

Tapestry needle

21 small glass beads

1/2" piece of velcro

  

Gauge

with F hook - 6 sc = 1 1/4"     with E hook - 5 sc = 1"

4 sc rows = 1"

Instructions -Worked in the round

Rnd 1: Ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 20 sc. Do not turn, do not ch 1, continuing up other side, sc in each ch - 20 sc  (40 total sc on rnd) If you want holder to curve in at the top sides, as in photo, change to size E hook at about rnd 8, otherwise, continue using F hook.

Cont working scs around for 15 rnds, end off.

Front Round Closure

Ch 2, 7 sc in 1st ch, join with sl st to 1st sc, ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around.  Sl st to 1st sc - 14 sc, end off

Tab

Row 1: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn - 4 sc

Rows 2 - 3: Rep row 1, end off.

Finishing

With right sides together, sew tab to center back of holder with cord and yarn needle. Then sew other end of tab to round front closure in same manner. Weave in all loose ends.

Add 20 beads with sewing needle and thread to outside edge of round closure. Sew 1 bead to center hole on circle.  Place velcro to right side of holder, and to underside of round closure.

FREE Pattern - Crochet over Bottles

 This pattern is for the oval bottle on the right in the purple multicolor yarn. You could use string, jute, or any color to match your decor. It's a quick, fun way to display crochet for you and your friends to enjoy. I got the pattern for the cream colored bottle from one of my favorite books published in the 1970's, titled McCall's Crochet Treasury. It's chock full of patterns of all kinds. I did the taller bottle with string maybe 15-20 years ago. The book has patterns for crocheting around larger bottles also.

Crochet Over Oval Bottle

Materials

TLC Essentials Yarn in Sage Mary # 2997

Crochet Hook size H/8 (5 mm)

Yarn Needle

Oval glass bottle that is 4 1/2" tall X 5" at widest point

(bottom will be a rectangle shape)
These bottles can sometimes be found at stores like Micheals Arts and Crafts, Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts, and Hobby Lobby.

Gauge

3 sc = 3/4"      2 sc rows = 1/2"

3 dc = 1"        3 dc rows = 1 1/2"

Decrease: to work 2 sts tog - (Yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw lp through, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) in each of the sts indicated, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Instructions - Worked in rounds

Rnd 1: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch and in each ch across, 4 sc in last ch, continuing up other side of ch, sc in each ch across, 4 sc in last st. From now on mark beg of each rnd.

Rnd 2: (Increase rnd) Sc in each st around, working 2 sc in each of 3 sc on ends - 6 sc on each end

Rnd 3: Rep rnd 2, working 2 sc in each of the 4 sc on ends - 8 sc on each end

Rnd 4: Sc in each st around, with no increases

Rnd 5: Ch 2, Hdc in each st around

Rnd 6: Rep rnd 5.

Rnd 7: Ch 3, Dc in each st around. At this point you may want to place the bottle inside work

Rnd 8: Dc in each st around, working 2 dc in each corner - 4 incs

Rnd 9: Dc in each st around - no incs

Rnd 10- 11: Rep rnd 9

Rnd 12: Dc in each st around, working 2dctog, to dec on each corner

Rnd 13: Dc in each st, with decreases where needed to pull together around smaller part of bottle.

Rnds 14-16: Sc in each st, decreasing where needed, so work will be close around neck of bottle, end off. Weave in loose ends with yarn needle.

Tie: Ch 65, end off. Weave in ends, and tie in a bow around neck of bottle

Finished size – approx. 8” x 5 ½”, without handles

Description

This oval bowl with handles can hold many things. It can be made to fit into any décor as a bowl for pine cones, potpourri, candy, or any kind of trinket. I also think it would look fantastic with felted balls in several different colors to match your décor!

Materials

Patons SWS yarn, 70% wool and 30% soy, # 4 med worsted wt

2.80 oz/80g/110yd/100m – 1 skein in Natural Wood, # 339365

Substitute - any other # 4 medium worsted wt yarn that will felt

Size K/10.5(6.5mm) crochet hook

Gauge

12 hdc =  4”

4 hdc rnds = 2”

Stitches used – ch, sc, hdc

Instructions

Bottom - Work in rounds.

Rnd 1: Ch 13, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across (12 sc). Work 3 more sc in last ch. You will have 4 sc in end ch. Cont up other side, sc in each rem ch, 3 more sc in ch just worked (last st). Sl st in first sc — 30 sc.

Mark beginning of each rnd.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, (counts as hdc) hdc in each sc around, increasing 4 hdc on each end, to keep work flat. Sl st in top of ch 2 (now and throughout pattern) — 38 hdc, 8 inc

Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc around, inc 5 hdc on each end — 48 hdc.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc around, with 3 inc evenly spaced at each short end — 54 hdc, 6 inc

Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc around, with 4 inc on each end – 62 hdc, 8 inc

Rnd 6: Ch 2, hdc around, with 4 inc on each end – 70 hdc, 8 inc

Rnd 7: Ch 2, hdc around, with 5 inc on each end – 80 hdc, 10 inc

Do not end off yarn.

Sides

Rnd 8: Ch 2, work 1 hdc in back loop only of each hdc around – 80 hdc

Rnd 9-11:  Ch 2, 1 hdc in both loops of each hdc – 80 hdc

End of after last rnd.

Handles

Row 1: Place marker in center st at short ends of bowl with inside of bowl (WS) facing you. Attach yarn to 5^th st (at right) from center marker. Attach yarn with sl st, ch 19, attach yarn to 5^th st to left of where marker was placed. Ch 1, turn – 19 chs

Row 2: Sl st in first st, Sc in back lp of next 17 chs, sl st in next ch, sl st to edge of bowl, (where 1^st row was attached) – 19 sts

End off yarn, and rep on other end. Weave in all loose ends.

To Felt:

Place bowl inside a zippered pillowcase, and put it in the washing machine

on the hottest, lowest water-level setting. If the water is not hot enough, turn up

the heat or pour boiling water into the machine as it fills up. Place tennis shoes in

the washer to help with agitation. Add 1 Tbs. detergent and ¼ cup baking soda.

You may have to repeat this process 1-3 times, depending on how you want the

finished project to look. Shape bowl and let it dry completely.
