I'm very proud to announce the next participant in the Colorful Crochet Lace blog tour. Reneé was the first person I ever had the privilege of mentoring in the CGOA mentoring program for those who have aspirations of becoming a professional designer. I instantly liked Reneé because she's interesting and so easy to talk to. Even though she's gone through trials in her life, as we all do, she still seems to really enjoy life and is a pleasure to those who are around her.

Of course in the mentoring program we don't teach people to design. We just kind of lead the way by answering questions, giving advice, and giving them contacts in the business where they can submit their designs, whether it's to a magazine, book or other places.
I knew Reneé was very talented and I quickly found out she had experience with everything including spinning her own yarn. She even spun some yarn she made for me from her Angora rabbits with Alpaca added to it. I was very impressed and it was so soft that I knew I had to design something with it! I ended up getting a scarf  accepted for the book One Skein Luxury Yarns by Story Publishing. And guess what? My mentee, Reneé, had a design accepteed for the exact same book where she landed a cover design!

Not only that but she became known very quickly when her gorgeous crochet dress design won the Grand prize in the CGOA yearly design contest that is held every year at Chain Link Conference! (Also known as the CGOA Knit and Crochet Show)

I am thrilled to introduce this next designer who is so graciously participating in my book launch of Colorful Crochet Lace . Her name is Susan Lowman and she's very special to me as we bonded while she was tech editing my book, Crochet That Fits, back in 2008. I instantly felt a connection with her, mainly because she's sweet, personable and she took care of my "baby" (the book) as she looked over it to make sure everything was right. As designers, having our books tech edited is quite a stressful thing for us to go through, but Susan made me feel at ease through the whole process. She did a great job because there are no major errors in the book. There are a few minor issues but nothing that would stop a reader from being able to make the projects without problems. Next stop on my book blog tour is at the Hot Lava Crochet blog owned by my designer friend, Tammy Hildebrand. Tammy has been designing crochet for many years and authored several books. She is always bubbly with a smile on her face and encourages everyone she comes in contact with. I'll never forget the pep talk she gave me when I first started designing. I was really upset when a person in the field made some comments that were negative. Tammy came to the rescue saying not to let that person get to me because she was that way with everyone. Tammy made a big difference at that time and she will never know how much that meant to me. I was so new and didn't know anyone yet. 

You may or may not agree, but through my experiences in life, I have learned that people who are always negative, constantly critize and put others down, are miserable themselves and they don't want anyone else to be happy. For some strange reason, they think it makes them feel better, but how could it? No one likes to be around a person who is always focused on themselves. Anyway, Tammy is the opposite if this and is a delight to know!
I've seen Tammy's designs evolve over the years and I have especially
admired her "lace" garments and shawls. She doesn't even know this, but I have told a few people Tammy is one of my favorite designers. Not only is she a super talented designer but she is so sweet and I love her to pieces! Click HERE to see her Ravelry designer page.

I have never met designer, Jocelyn Sass, in person, but feel a real connection with her and am honored to announce her participation in this blog tour. Interview with Mary Jane Hall on Colorful Crochet Lace by Ellen Gormley

If anyone is interested in what my motivation and reasoning was in choosing Paris as my theme for Colorful Crochet Lace, you can read all about it in my interview with fellow designer friend, Ellen Gormley. She asked questions that are different from other interviews, so you may find it interesting.

If you are a crocheter, I'm sure you have to know who Ellen Gormley is! She and I started designing professionally around the same time (2004-2005), and Ellen has really climbed the latter in this exciting world of crochet! She's had many successes, such as authoring books, designing for magazines and teaching Annie's videos on crochet but her most recent endeavors have been becoming the editor of the popular Crochet! Magazine and also being asked to be a regular as a crochet expert on the Knit and Crocbet Now TV show! As a follower and friend, I am very proud of the things she has accomplished in the world of crochet.

Ellen and I have actually been connected in several ways. Living in a suburb of Cincinnati, her local CGOA group had me come to Loveland, Ohio (an hour from me), to be the guest speaker at a 1 day crochet retreat in March of 2008. That was a really fun time, as I love getting together with other crocheters. As crocheters around the world, we just have an immediate connection, don't we? Then in 2010, my own local Dayton CGOA had both Ellen and I do a 1 day crochet retreat  at the Bergamo Center here in Dayton, Oh. That was also a full time, gething to know her even more.

And again in 2009, Ellen and I traveled together from Cincinnati to Detroit whee she and I each did a taping of an episode on the Knit and Crochet Now TV show, invited by producer, Candi Jensen. This is the same show Ellen appears on regularly now, with the new host, Deborah Norville of Inside Edition. Deborah is a long time crocheter and Premier yarns named one of their yarns after her. Sometimes in the future I will feature Ellen with an intrview about her books and life as a designer.

Book Blog Tour Begins Today, Aug 4! Colorful Crochet Lace

It's finally here! Today is the day I've been waiting for. Since Colorful Crochet Lace was released in July, the publisher (Interweave/F+W) and I are launching the book release with a book blog tour that I hope you will follow! Thank you Tommy Semosh, for doing such a great job!

I'm very proud and honored to have the designers on board who have agreed to take their time to post about the book on their designated day. Well, this is truly an exciting time for me! I can't believe this day has finally come and it's been very emotional for me. I began this book 2 years ago and it's finally been released. All the hard work and stress I put into it has been well worth it, and I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting me and the book the way you have! It means the world to me! I've loved reading the 5 star reviews and comments on my social media.

Alla Koval Blog Book Blog Tour 2015 - Begins today July 13!

I want to congradulate Alla on the kick off of her book blog tour today. Actually she has 2 books and they are both being released at the same time. All I can say is that the books, titled Imagical Seasons Spring and Summer, are gorgeous! You will love her special designs. My day for everyone to stop here for the blog tour is July 20, so this is just an introduction and I will be posting much more info then. I'll be posting an interview I did with Alla. She's had a very intesting life and you won't be bored reading all about her.
