Corrections for Patterns in Positively Crochet!

There were only 4 corrections and aa few minor things in Positively Crochet!, so that's pretty good. I have a few minor corrections for Crochet That Fits, but so far nothing major and I haven't had complaints from readers.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to reply as soon as I can.

Corrections in this post are for:

Positively Crochet! - by Mary Jane Hall
1. Easy Shrug - page 18 in book
2. Circular Shrug - page 11 in book
3. Tie Front Sweater - page 62 in book
4. Newsboy Cap - page 96
5. Airy Vest - page 120 in book

1. Easy Shrug - also new and better diagram! See Diagram Below!

Revisions - Easy Shrug - page 18 in book (revised 11/15/07 (extra sizes)

This is not an error, I just made the sizes a little larger so the shrug would fit better. These revisions will not affect the size xsm-sm. All revisions are in red

Fits sizes xs-sm (med-lg,xlg-1x,2x-3x) I changed the sizes to be a little larger!
Note: Garment will stretch to fit above sizes.

Materials

TLC Red Heart Yarn, # 4 med worsted wt
5 oz/260 yd/140 g per skein
3 (3,4,4) skeins in Dark Sage
Crochet hook size K/10.5 (6.5 mm)
Yarn needle
Gauge - 12 sc and 16 rows = 4”

NEW NUMBERS/INSTRUCTIONS ARE IN RED – I am making each larger size 2” bigger on each square. In other words the size xsml-sm has 12” sections, med-lg- has 14” sections, xlg-1x has 16” sections and 2x-3x has 18 “ sections for each square. The top of the “T” has 3 squares. See my new diagram.

Pattern note: entire shrug is worked in back loop only (blo)

Side Seams

Following diagram, sew A to B, leaving an armhole opening at C. Try shrug on for fit, having seams in back, below armhole opening, and turning over long edge, D, for shawl collar. If armhole is too big, you may sew tog several ridges at armhhole to fit, starting at side seam. Weave in ends.

Model is a sz sm and is wearing the sz sm-med
2. Circular Shrug - Revisions - pg 11 in book

Change # 1 –this is not an error – just reworded to make it clearer
Row 1: Ch 107(116, 125). Hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next 13 sts. (2 skipped chs at beg is the first hdc) * In next ch, work (sc, ch 1, sc -V-st made), sk 2 ch; rep from * until you have 15 chs left - 26 (29,32) V-sts - hdc in rem 15 chs, ch 2, turn. Ch 2 counts as 1st hdc at beg of each row.

Change # 2 This only affects the lg-xlg size (the correct measurement is on the schematic that’s in the book)
The book says 23 ¼, where it should be 24 3/4, below in red.
Rows 3 - 60 (66,66): Rep row 2 or until center measures 22 1/2" (24 3/4,27) Sides will be flared. End off.

This is not an error. I am adding another size (size 3x) to the Circular Shrug. I just sent those too as friend in an email, so I hope it makes sense.
Size 3x for Circular Shrug
It should be pretty easy (I think) to make the pattern larger. You would add to the length of the beginning ch. Since the sts are in multiples of 9, work 134 (for a size 3x) as the beginning ch for a size larger than a 2x, and add to the pattern stitch to make it longer. They could also add to the hdc at each end, and make it 7" instead of 5" on each end (which is the shawl collar) Since 3 hdc are 1", then they could add even more to the beginning ch so they can work more hdc. So if they want a wider shawl collar (and I think they should on larger sizes) they they should add 3 more chs per inch on each end. I hope this isn't too confusing. Then they would just add more rows to the finished pattern

3. Tie Front Sweater -                                Page 62 in book (changes for shorter sleeves are in ,red).

Under "Neck Shaping and Shoulders" - Other side of rows 14-16, line 3 should read "side of back at armhole, ch3, work 4 (5, 6) lps."

The following is not really an error. I meant for the sleeves to be long, but decided to go ahead and make changes for shorter sleeves, because if you want your sleeves to be really long, you can add to the flare on the end. One girl said the sleeves were so long that she had to leave the flare off entirely, so that's why I decided to go ahead and shorten them. I was even thinking that the sleeves on the sweater I made were too long also, even before the book went to print. My changes for shorter sleeves are in red. There are 6 less rows, so the only thing changed on this pattern is round numbers.
Rnds 13 - 17: Work even with no incs.
Rnd 18: (Inc rnd) Rep round 12 - 11 (12,13) lps
Rnds 19 - 29: Work even with no incs.
Rnd 30: (inc rnd) Rep rnd 12 -12 (13,14) lps
Rnds 31 - 32: Work even
Armhole Shaping for Sleeve Cap
Rnd 33: Ch 2, sc in next ch-3 lp, * ch 3, sc in next ch-3 lp; rep from * 9 (10,11) times, turn - 11(12,13) lps, (includes ch-2 lp)
Rnd 34: Ch 2, sc in next ch-3 lp, * ch 3, sc in next ch-3 lp; rep from * to within last ch 2-lp, turn (do not sc in last ch-2 lp) 10(11,12) lps
Rnds 35 - 40: Rep last rnd 6 (7,8) times. End off - 4 lps (all sizes)

4. Newsboy Cap - page 96 in book  Please add the words that are in red
Rnd 1: Ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch 1) (2 dc into ring, ch 1) 5 times

The beginning of the Cap pattern should say:
“With J hk, ch 4, sl st in first ch made to form ring
Rnd 1:Ch 4 (2 dc into ring, ch 1) 5 times, 1 dc into ring, sl st in 3rd ch of ch 4 - 12 dc”
Instead of: (what’s printed in the book)
ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch 1) 5 times, 1 dc into ring, sl st in third ch of ch 4 - 12dc and 6 ch-1 sps.

5.  Airy Vest- page 120 in book
Airy Vest - changes in red. These numbers got left off when I sent revisions before going to print.
Under "Instructions" at beginning
Row 1: Ch 35(37,39,41,43,47,49,51) dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3, turn –33 (35,37,39,41,45,47,49) dc
Row 2: Dc in each dc across, ch 3, turn – 33(35,37,39,41,45,47,49) dc
On Row 4 of left front, instead of "Dec 1 dc at beg of row", it should read, "Dec 1 dc at end of row as in row 2".

6. Fishnet Sweater - pages 111 - 113 (adult + child sizes)

sk 4 chs, - was left out after the ch 5, so this is how Rnd 1 should read:

Rnd 1: Ch 11, sk 4 chs, 1 dtr into next ch, * ch 5, sk 4 chs, dtr in next ch, Rep from * around, end with ch 5 and s s into 5th ch of ch-11. (16 ch-5 sps)

Crochet That Fits - Book published in 2008

There are some minor errors in this book, but not anything major as far as I know. I've marked a few minor places in my copy and will post them here as soon as I have time!
